My show “Interplay" at 12 Degrees has been extended to March 6th. Curated by David McIntosh, the show consists of six fabric works made with recycled fabric over canvas. 12 Degrees is located in the lobby of 15 Beverley Street, just north of Queen in Toronto. I hope you get a chance to see the show! "12 Degrees is very happy to return to our exhibitions schedule with “Interplay”, a solo show of 6 recent fabric works by artist Lindy Fyfe. From November 7, 2021 to January 30, 2022, Fyfe’s works will be on display at 12 Degrees, Monday through Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm.
Fyfe deconstructs second-hand store electric striped stretch knits into a palette of shards, then upcycles her materials into striking new visions. With her complex, rigorous abstractions and geometric patterning, Fyfe’s assemblages echo a range of textile arts, from homemade quilts to Navajo blankets. She also evokes the non-objective illusions of the 1960’s Op art movement as well as early 20th century revolutionary Soviet artist Lyubov Popova’s pure geometry textiles created for utilitarian and egalitarian purpose, which have recently been repurposed as hi-top sneakers courtesy of MOMA’s gift shop. While Fyfe’s work resonates historically, her dynamic non-objective textile works conjure a simultaneously arresting and contemplative vision of the movements and rhythms of our contemporary lives. We would like to thank the artist for her generosity in loaning us her work. We also thank JB Arts and Assistant Curator Patricia Pastén for their support. We request that visitors wear masks while in the gallery space. This is the 11th in a series of exhibitions of contemporary artworks at 12 Degrees."
